Pre-Order Will Wood & The TapeWorms’ Self-ish HERE

Clifton, NJ // AUGUST 9, 2016: Increasingly strange and hard to pin down, the genre-bending wackiness of offbeat “DaDa-Rock” 5-piece Will Wood and the Tapeworms is making yet another strange and bold statement. They introduced themselves formally with the absurdly-named vanity-surrealist music video for “Mr. Capgras Encounters a Secondhand Vanity: Tulpamancer’s Prosopagnosia/Pareidolia as Direct Result of Trauma to the Fusiform Gyrus” (premiered via Fangoria HERE), and then again by dropping the single “Dr. Sunshine is Dead!” (premiered via Horror Society HERE). The boys are back at it again already with the surprisingly whimsical, color-coated, tongue-in-cheek music video for their latest single, “2012,” named after the apocalypse that everyone seems to have forgotten about.

The video for “2012” is the latest work of eccentric independent filmmaker Jesse Lazarus, who half-drunkenly swings the camera about haphazardly-arranged situations, and creates an explosion of color and motion that’s rarely seen in conventional music videos. The video bounces erratically from topic to topic, mood to mood, and relentlessly assaults the viewer with bursts of cartoonish mania and dry humor. Bad green screening, chopped-up animation, and oversaturated colors flash on the screen like some kind of brainwashing video, all while capturing Will Wood in different characters, colors, camera angles and costumes. Body paint, psychedelic art, over-the-top performances and zero-budget sets compliment the sarcastically-cheery drug-addled babbling of the single.

“2012″ appears early on their upcoming experimental concept album, Self-ish, which features the work of Foxy Shazam’s Alex NauthFrnkiero and the Cellabration’s Matt Olsson, and The Dillinger Escape Plan’s Kevin Antreassian. This funk-inspired track playfully dances around “intriguing and histrionic” (Star-Ledger, 2016) singer-songwriter Will Wood’s less-than-responsible past, which left him with a gaping hole in his memory where the entire year 2012 should be. Employing the use of rapid-fire vocals, bombastic saxophones, ripping piano and a plastic kazoo, Will Wood and the Tapeworms break out catchy pop melodies, funk harmonies, overly-dramatic theatrics and a middle-eastern inspired breakdown that refuse to be defined as any one genre.

This highly unusual and borderline avant-garde concept album is available for pre-order [HERE] and makes its advance debut on August 19th at Mexicali Live in Teaneck, NJ, where Will Wood and the Tapeworms will be performing the album front-to-back cabaret-style, covering the stage with confetti and face paint and bringing their theatrical tunes to life. Tickets are available online via links below.

Biography: Will Wood and the Tapeworms are a five-piece experimental rock outfit based out of northern New Jersey, lead by singer/songwriter and pianist Will Wood, who appeared entirely out of nowhere some time in 2015. Armed with cleverly-crafted and surreal anti-folk songs, Wood assembled a group of performers and began crashing around New Jersey covered in face paint and confetti. Unusual instrumentation, foreign scales, and highly theatrical performances give Will Wood and the Tapeworms a unique and hard-to-define voice. Will Wood and the Tapeworms dress up in drag and bowties, barrel around the stage hollering at the top of their lungs, and unpredictably swing from collapsing to their knees to collapsing into each others arms. And while the Tapeworms pump up audiences, Will Wood entertains with shockingly honest comedy and personal anecdotes about his life as a true eccentric. They regularly perform on the NJ/NY indie scene and plan to begin national touring soon.
