Pre-Release Review
If you had any doubts in your mind about the state of the goth music scene, Valerie Gentile and Abbey Nex’s Live En Sous Sol should wash them away. Fans of traditional goth music and industrial rock alike are in for a real treat. The duo of seasoned musicians power through a varied and sometimes jarring set with the energy you would expect at a venue. The camera work is a bit disorienting, but also adds to the raw vibe of the performance.
Valerie’s stage presence shifts constantly from song to song, matching her high-energy guitar riffs and the pulsing synthesizer beats. Her haunting vocal tone is absolutely captivating. In contrast, when Abbey Nex takes on lead vocals, he brings an unexpected edge to the whole performance. His industrial rock background does not go unnoticed here and it compliments Valerie’s more traditional qualities in a very unique way.
