Los Angeles, CA | September 2, 2015 – New Orleans rock act, Variants, have announced that their new EP ‘Commonwealth’ will be released on October 23, 2015.  Recorded and produced by Jay Maas of Getaway Studios [Defeater, State Champs, Title Fight], ‘Commonwealth’ features four smooth, soulful tracks and will be the group’s second release.  ‘Commonwealth’ will serve as a follow up to 2014’s ‘The Concept of Color,’ and the single off the EP, “Bitter” can be heard here.
The band explains, “Commonwealth’ differs from ‘The Concept of Color’ in a few ways. Firstly, the overall sound is more raw, which is what we wanted, and why we wanted to work with Jay [Maas]. More importantly, we believe that ‘Commonwealth’ is more ‘us’. We recorded ‘The Concept of Color’ in January 2014, and recorded ‘Commonwealth’ in March 2015. In the time in between we learned a lot about what works best for us musically, and which direction we want to go in. I’m not saying we’ve figured everything out, as each day we learn more about ourselves and each other as musicians, but ‘Commonwealth’ is definitely the closest we’ve come yet to achieving our own unique sound.”

Track List:
1. Borrowed Time
2. Dirt | Dust
3. Understand
4. Bitter
About Variants:
New Orleans-based melodic rock band, Variants, proves to be a breath of fresh air for the alternative music scene. Their debut full-length album, The Concept of Color, was released in May of 2014 and was recorded and produced by Brooks Paschal at Mockingbird Studios [Sullivan, To Speak of Wolves, Verse-Emerge].  Combining a unique fusion of melodic hardcore, pop-punk, and rock, the record proudly represented the group’s desire to not be confined to one specific genre of music.
Following the release of The Concept of Color, Variants focused on their live show, consistently performing both locally and in national markets.  The band has performed on the House of Blues main stage in New Orleans, and have taken their show from Dallas to Boston, and numerous cities in between with the likes of Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Heart to Heart, The Color Morale, and more.
In March of 2015, Variants returned to the studio with Jay Maas of Getaway Studios, [Defeater, State Champs, Title Fight] to record their newest material, which is featured on their forthcoming release, the Commonwealth EP.  “Jay Maas’ studio always sounds very natural and emotive, which is exactly what we were looking for,” explains Variants. “I think we all had the most fun recording ‘Bitter’.. there was a lot of room to experiment.”
“Bitter,” the first single off the the four-track EP, was released in early 2015 with Substream Magazine who said the release contained, “soulful vocals and bluesy arrangements that call to mind Incubus or Envy On The Coast, or even the softer elements of Emarosa.”The Commonwealth EP will be out on October 23, 2015, and Variants will be announcing a handful of tour dates in support of the release.
