Melbourne, FL – November 18, 2019 – Non-profit organization, To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA) is excited to announce that they have partnered with Scary Kids Scaring Kids to help bring life-changing conversations about mental health as well as distribute information about available resources to audiences across the west coast. In addition to a collaborative t-shirt, with all proceeds benefiting TWLOHA, the organization will have an on-site presence at each date of the band’s upcoming The City Sleeps In Flames 15th Anniversary Tour. The west coast run kicks off on January 13th, with tickets on sale now at www.scarykidsscaringkids.com.
“For the past 13 years TWLOHA has made it our business to show up where people come together. Those spaces have included festivals, tours, and shows all over the world; and they’ve included moments of joy and moments of retreat,” shares TWLOHA Director of Outreach, Chad Moses. “We believe that music is a safe place, a sort of home we run to in attempts to make sense of our lives. So when Scary Kids Scaring Kids approached us with their hopes for this tour, we identified a common heartbeat.”
He continues: “This tour gives both the band and their fans a unique opportunity to revisit the past, honoring the honesty and artistry that made up our soundtrack. And in turn we also get the chance to reflect and focus on our fears and dreams, what we’ve lost and gained, and celebrate stories that are still going. We’ve found that so often, people are willing to speak up about mental health issues as long as they feel as if they are in good company. So the hope is for this tour to be a springboard for conversation, empowering our communities to find the help they deserve.“
The upcoming tour marks Scary Kids Scaring Kids’ first live shows in nearly a decade, and the band is excited to welcome vocalist and close friend Cove Reber (Saosin, Dead American) to the stage as they celebrate their debut album.
On the upcoming tour, Scary Kids Scaring Kids’ Pouyan Afkary expresses: “We couldn’t be more excited to return to the stage and friends that we grew to love over our many years of touring. The memories we’ve shared in the venues and cities we’re returning to have been a formative part of our lives, and many of our favorite. Can’t wait to share these songs and make new memories together after so many years.“
TWLOHA recently wrapped up their 8th annual campaign to honor World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10) and National Suicide Prevention Week (September 8 – September 14). With the help of supports from around the world, the organization was able to raise more than $250k for treatment and recovery, surpassing their initial goal of $150k. Over 5,700 people donated to this year’s “You Make Today Better” campaign, in addition to the sale of over 4,600 World Suicide Prevention Day packs. The money raised will help sponsor over 4,100 counseling sessions and fund 60,000 FIND HELP searches.
Since its start in 2006, TWLOHA has donated over $2.5 million directly into treatment, has responded to over 210,000 messages from over 100 countries, and traveled more than 3.8 million miles to meet people face-to-face at nearly 3,000 events. Each month, they connect with 5 million people online through social media and their FIND HELP Tool fields 5,000 searches made by people seeking affordable, local mental health resources.
