New York, NY | July 23, 2014 – ARTISTdirect, an online digital media company, premieres Brooklyn-based experimental Indie artist Alyson Greenfield’s new video “Uncharted Places”Wednesday, July 23. The video was directed by David Franklin, known for his past directorial work with Luscious Jackson, Body Language, Lemonade, and Black Taxi. Greenfield said she is excited to have her video premiere on ARTISTdirect, a popular site for music discovery, especially after working with director Franklin. Greenfield said, “It was an honor to work with David. He has such integrity and vision. I told him all I knew was that I wanted to fly and be under water and he made it happen by casting me as both Icarus and a nautical explorer from the 18th Century. We worked with a notion of falling; falling into sleep and dream, falling back down to earth from the heat and power of the sun, falling from the mast of a ship into the depths of the ocean, and an overarching notion of willingly falling into the unknown.”
Greenfield recorded “Uncharted Places” when she was invited into the Converse Rubber Tracks Studio with engineer Alex McKenzie (Doe Paoro), and then mixed the track with Roger Greenawalt(The Pierces, Rufus Wainwright). “Uncharted Places” features Greenfield’s “eclectic sound” as she single-handedly plays a synthesizer, chord organ, toy piano, floor tom, and snare drum, all while accompanied by beatboxer Shane Maux.
Converse documented Greenfield recording “Uncharted Places” in both their “Track of the Week” and“Oh Hello” video series. Greenfield was also featured in the Converse Rubber Tracks “First Year Highlights” video alongside Theophilus London, Ra Ra Riot, and more.
Greenfield has had a busy year, selected by film director Michael Carr to compose the score for his feature film The American Templars. Greenfield also had multiple placements on Lifetime’s hit TV series Dance Moms, with her song “I Love Only Silence” featured in the winning dance. Greenfield’s music was in the film SuperSleuths, which premiered at the 2014 SXSW Film Festival.

Alyson Greenfield is an experimental Indie songstress whose music crosses the genres of folk, electronica, orchestral, and hip-hop. Her eclectic sound has led her to share the stage with a wide range of artists. As well as having performed alongside Indie favorites CocoRosie and Nellie McKay, Greenfield is no stranger to the electro and hip-hop scenes. Future Rock’s remix of her song “Understand the Sky” was released on the Chicago-based electronica trio’s most recent live album, and the original version of the song appears in Josh Stolberg’s (Good Luck Chuck, Pirhana 3D) feature film Conception.
Greenfield’s most recent release, Rock Out With Your Glockenspiel Out, an album of hip-hop covers, has gained media attention, especially for her “re-inventions” (Cover Me) of Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise” on a glockenspiel and L.L. Cool J’s “Mama Said Knock You Out” on a grand piano, which have led to feature performances at the American Beatboxing Championships, alongside Rahzel, Raaka, and DJ Johnny Juice (Public Enemy).
Greenfield’s music has been heard on Fox, Lifetime, AOL, and WNYC, and most recently in the short film SuperSleuths (SXSW 2014 World Premiere) and the feature film The American Templars, for which Greenfield composed the score. Greenfield was named “One of the 5 CMJ Acts You Should Have Seen” by The Faster Times, an “Upcoming NYC Artist” by NYC’s The Deli, and was one of the first 5 artists chosen to record at Converse’s Rubber Tracks. Greenfield is also the Founder of the Tinderbox Music Festival, a NYC-based event showcasing emerging female musicians, and giving back to NYC non-profits empowering young women through the arts.
