Premiere: DALAL’s “Superman”

Los Angeles, CA | November 11, 2014 – Austria-native and multi-talented entertainer, Dalal, has unveiled the original song she penned entitiled Superman” from the upcoming documentary,Hair’ exclusively on Artist Direct. The track, co-written with Nate “Impact” Jolley, emphasizes the story of identity and transformation that is explored in “Hair.”  The documentary is emotional, dramatic, funny, engaging, and uplifting.  It allows the viewer to look within and think about what their hair really means to them and to question what would happen if they were to drastically change their appearance by shaving off all of their hair or losing it due to medical issues.  Dalal has been working with this project since she was brought onto the board to create music and was eventually welcomed as an additional editor.

When asked about the inspiration behind “Superman”, Dalal shared,

“The key themes of the documentary are reflected in the song; identity, transformation, change and a relentless wish to make ourselves new. The title Superman speaks more about man as species than a gender but it of course also draws a connection to the beloved fictional American Hero as well. The word Superman really emphasis the importance of our culture to look beyond our set conventions; to become the epitome of all our “manly” capabilities to become something more than just human… and at the same time I chose this title to draw attention that the most superhuman of all Superheroes doesn’t transform into a superhero per se but his costume is actually the quite earthly Clark Kent, the mere human. The idea of transformation in the song is not about being some else, it’s about trying to find ways to be yourself.”

About Hair:

From the time we are born we share an intimate connection to our hair. The documentary, “Hair”, explores hair and how it, or lack of it, shapes our identity. When a young woman sets out to shave her head just to do away with what she felt was controlling her daily mood, she found that she ended up becoming more mindful of who she was. She went from a “beer drinking, rib-eating woman”, to a vegetarian who prefers tea over a cocktail. She lost 30 pounds and has become much more focused in her life and career. As a result of her transformation, she decides to throw a fundraising event in LA to empower women through shaving off their own locks. What she finds is that hair has a much deeper meaning than that of looks, and it affects men and women. It is part of our identity. What role do other people play in the perception of our hair, and what lengths are we willing to go to to either break the mold or to surcome to society’s pre-determined perception of ones inner beauty? What happens if we shave it off? If we lose it from cancer treatment? How do we feel with a new hairstyle or color? Does it shape our personality? Is your hair you, or are you your hair?
