New Music From Eric Victorino
Gestalt (pronounced; Guest-Alt) is the new moniker of Eric Victorino,
singer, lyricist and founding member of San Francisco indie-electronic duo The
Limousines, Who rose to middle-class fame in 2010 with their radio and blog
friendly hits Very Busy People and Internet Killed The Video Star. Music videos
and Major and Indie record contracts, Tours of North America, Europe and the
UK followed.
While he keeps his day-job, (The Limousines are currently at work on their
third album) Victorino has forged on as Gestalt in a new position of power which
he readily claims he has earned. “Being a member of a collaboration or a
partnership, whether it’s with three other guy or just one other person, you’re
always compromising, which means you’re never really making exactly the
artistic statement you intend. I’m finally feeling confident enough to reach out and
grab what I need,” Says Victorino.
Like the psychology term he’s named for, the music of Gestalt seems to be
more than the sum of its very few parts. Informed by his past, but leaving it far
behind in his evolution, this music is motivated by emotion where wit and
sarcasm may have been more influential in his past incarnations. Collaborating
with a small crew of engineers and underground hip-hop producers and
experimenting with vocal manipulations, effects and bass heavy, down tempo
beats, Gestalt has created a sound that sits neatly with contemporaries (SOHN,
Chet Faker, James Blake) in a new experiemental and emotive alternative genre
somewhere on the border between R&B and IDM.
