Listen to “Fucked Up” below:
“After years of shows and countless hours on the road only to be let down by failed attempts to “make it,” there comes a point where you ask yourself, “What the fuck does ‘making it’ even mean and why do I bother to keep chasing this big fat illusive magic dragon of disappointment?” There’s a whole army of musicians, dreamers and entrepreneurs out there who share that mindset at one time or another, and “Fucked Up” is the anthem of the frustrated. The battle cry for the not-quite-theres. It’s also a satirical look at just how whiny and discontent we all can be at times. Beyond all that gobbledygook, this is just a nasty, dirty excuse-to-party song”– Automagik
About Automagik:
Automagik is a five-piece rock n’ roll group from Cincinnati, Ohio formed in 2010. Automagik was born from the ashes of an experimental/progressive rock group known as The Javelin Dance. When that group disbanded, Zachary Evans (lead vocals) and Devin Williams (lead guitar) soldiered on in a new direction that was a pure representation of themselves as individuals; funky, goofy, soulful, and energetic. They pulled in close friends and lucky Craigslist finds thereafter to round out the lineup. Band members include lead vocalist and guitarist Zachary Evans, Jamie Rasmussen on bass, Baron Walker on the keyboard, Andy Cluxton on drums, and Devin Williams on lead guitar. Influenced by the musical styles of Beatles, Queen and Weezer, they have one goal as a band: to deliver a caffeine shot to your cerebellum that will keep you singing all night long. The band members each have very eclectic tastes in music, and their sound offers a little something for everyone. If you like to dance and have fun, then you’ll definitely enjoy jamming out to Automagik.
When Automagik is on stage playing a show, you can always count on the fact that it will be a wild dance party. Walking on stage and giving their audience the bare minimum merely isn’t enough for them. The band’s theory is simple: “If we can’t take the show to a further level than the basic act of hearing the music, then why bother getting on a stage? That’s what records are for”. As a result, the band tends to enjoy freaking out and partying their heads off during a set, which allows their audience to let loose and do the same. For Automagik, a great show takes place when a great band is partying for the crowd, and the crowd is partying back with equal enthusiasm and vigor.
“We are each personally inspired by different things, but our song writing is mostly inspired by real life experiences that have affected us on an emotional level. There’s no better feeling than capturing the true spirit of your emotions in a song”
Their songs have been featured on major networks such as MTV and ABC, as well as in mobile apps such as the All-Nighter’s “Rock Photographer.” They also have a number of festival slots under their belts, including SXSW and MPMF, as well as supporting roles for national acts such as Foxy Shazam, Surfer Blood, and Andrew W.K.
The band released their self-titled album, Automagik in 2010 and their sophomore album, Black Sundae, in 2013. With two albums under their belt, Automagik are currently preparing to unveil their third release, Beach Fuzz EP, later this summer. Their ultimate goal as Automagik is to be the first band to perform on Saturn, but if that doesn’t quite pan out, the band plans to continuously tour, perform, and have a ton of fun creating artful music.
