Thought Transfer interview done by Mike De Man. Questions answered by Bob Katsiaficas (vocalist and guitarist).
Thought Transfer is a rock band hailing from the patriotic city of Boston, Massachusetts. Boston is known to have one of the most advantageous music scenes in the entire United States. Do you think being from there has given the band a better experience when it comes to music?
I would say yes but I don’t have any real way to gauge just how much it has helped. There will always be a ton of bands playing original music in and around Boston so for that reason it is a great thing.
The band comprises itself of two people only. Has this been more of a struggle or a blessing for Thought Transfer?
It was definitely more of a blessing. The less people in a band, the easier it is to do everything.
To touch upon music, you guys have one album out as of right now as per my understanding, Light My Way, the debut album, which came out in 2012. With 13 phenomenal songs, each one with a great message that comes along with it, which one has impacted you the most?
Yes you’re right, ‘Light My Way’ is our first album so far. The song that impacted me the most was “Don’t Forget Me” because it was written about my dad who passed away in 2006. The emotions for me were still pretty raw so it was a difficult song to write, sing in the studio and perform live. But it was a very healthy & cathartic release of those emotions.
“Another Mistake”, which has one of the most powerful sounds on the album, is the opening track of Light My Way. What made you start off the album with that song?
Not only was it one of the stronger songs on the record but it also sets the mood for the record. Fasten your seatbelt and get ready for the ride, hahaha.
Talk to me a little about the groovy track, “Come Between”. What made you write that masterpiece?
Well first let me thank you for the kind words. To try and be good at anything you need to do it a lot and often. As a songwriter, I just hammer away at the guitar every day. Some riffs are good and some not so good. “Come Between” was just one of the good riffs that I hit upon one day. It’s about that person in your life that you have been to hell & back with and that you love unconditionally. So no matter what happens, nothing and no one can ever come between you and that person.
A new album is said to be in production for release in the near future. Does this album have a name yet or is still being thought up?
No album name yet but I need to think of something soon because I just finished mixing all the songs for the new record.
Do you think it has a possibility of coming out in 2015?
I have been writing like crazy and already have enough material for another record so yes I will be releasing it this year for sure!
For this release, the band is working with Zippah Recording. How was your experience with them?
I initially found Zippah through my other band Thousand Days. We needed someone to remix 3 songs and to help us record 2 new ones. Brian Charles, who owns Zippah is also the producer there did an amazing job with the remixes and with the new songs. He was the first producer that I’ve worked with who really understands who you are as an artist and what kind of sound you are shooting for. He is a clear filter and leaves his ego at the door.
As of now, Thought Transfer seems to have quite a full plate. What are Thought Transfer’s plans for the rest of 2015 into the impending year?
We’re shooting a video this month for one of the new songs. We’ll start playing some shows in and around Boston and will try to shoot some more videos before releasing the whole record. I’m excited for the future because there is no shortage of new material and the songs are only getting better.
