After releasing a self-titled album in 2015 that didn’t quite suit them, WCAR are back with Cold Like War, arguably their strongest effort to date, and they are touring the world to celebrate. The Plot In You, Oceans Ate Alaska, Currents, and Tempting Fate joined them for their North American run. Having seen a majority of the lineup before, I went in already knowing that it was going to be an incredible performance. We Came As Romans has become one of the most enjoyable, yet most difficult, bands to capture as the endless sea of crowd surfers tends to confine my shooting space to a tiny corner of the photo pit. Their headlining show in Philadelphia was no exception, especially since they began with “Vultures With Clipped Wings,” one of the heaviest tracks on their recent release. As soon as vocalist Dave Stephens growled, “I never found peace, but now I’m fighting a war,” the whole place moved, and the energy didn’t let up until the set concluded with an encore of “Hope.”
