Since releasing Overdue in October, Haley Fohr, aka Circuit des Yeux, has amassed an influential group of supporters including Bill Callahan and Xiu Xiu’s Jamie Stewart. NPR’s Lars Gotrich rated Overdue as one of the best outsider records of this past year. In the months following the release, CdY has been touring constantly across Europe and North America supporting artists such as Oneohtrix Point Never, Tim Hecker, Sir Richard Bishop and Ben Frost, and there are no signs of halting on the horizon.
After finishing a tour last month at Austin Psych Fest, CdY will be back on the road in June playing dates at Issue Project Room in New York, Suoni Per Il Popolo Festival in Montreal and NXNE in Toronto. Filling out her band on the June tour are Cooper Crain (Cave / Bitchin’ Bajas) and John Dawson (Thee Open Sex / Apache Dropout). Her summer dates continue in August with a full west coast tour supporting Xiu Xiu.
In the midst of constant touring and working on new material for her next record, Haley managed to shoot a new film for the fourth single off of Overdue, “Acarina”. The project is a collaboration between Haley and filmmaker, Julia Dratel. The two artists met while working at Chicago reissue label, Numero Group. Inspiration for the film came in various forms with aesthetic influences rooted in works such as Ingmar Bergman’s Persona and Maya Deren’s Witches’ Cradle. As Dratel explains, the making of the video was in part “to challenge ourselves to create surreal images out of relatively small means and make it an atmosphere of design, the feeling when one is losing it, that the objects in one’s everyday life take on their own lives, that they mean more than what they are.”
