Devour the Day is one of those bands that you have to see live in order to truly appreciate them. I mean no disrespect to their studio albums when I say that, but the energy and passion they exude on stage is unique to say the least. Their energy is particularly impressive when they are tasked with taking the stage before Gothenburg metal giants In Flames and beloved American rock band Alter Bridge.
Devour the Day began the night with the title track of their latest album, S.O.A.R. The title is an acronym for “Suffer, Overcome, And Recover,” words that are repeated throughout the song. As usual, Joey “Chicago” Walser’s feet barely touched the ground as he bounced around the stage, making it nearly impossible for my camera lens to keep up with him. If the audience members new to DTD weren’t hooked with the first track, lead singer and guitarist Blake Allison definitely commanded the crowd’s full attention when he jumped off the stage to scream the last lines of “Good Man” in the audience. Highlights from the remainder of their performance included the extremely personal track “The Bottom” and an older fan favorite “Respect.” Get your tickets to see it yourself at one of their upcoming tour dates HERE!
