Stallions interview done by Mike De Man.
Delaware has a new band coming out of the shadows as pop act, Stallions, reaches into the realm of music. From what inspiration did Stallions come from?
The band I was in had a really good run not just locally but also on the East Coast. They had just broken up and I pretty much lost my mind and started writing songs in my parents’ basement and was sending them to Shane. He was a friend of mine and had produced a few songs for the band that had just broken up (American Buffalo). He started coming over and we worked the new songs out together into an EP. Shane and I both started out as drummers and it was kind of a strange scene. We would find each other picking up whichever instrument was closest while we were working out the songs. Eventually we found our way as a songwriting team and then expanded that with our current lineup.
With the “One Track Mind” EP coming out in a few months, what are the thoughts going through your head?
I think more than anything we’re thankful that we were able to make a record that we feel is an accurate representation of us. It’s a true collaboration and we feel excited about that and
are very happy with the record. I think that for us making music isn’t the problem, it’s that we’re from the middle of nowhere and it’s hard to convince people to listen to it.

Your vocalist mentioned your new single, “Still Chasing” being about his girlfriend. Does the song have any other origins, or is it just a sweet love song?
The song is literal not metaphorical. It really is about being obsessed with someone and not knowing if you’re going to end up being with them. And at the same time, it is a sweet love song.
The band set out on tour with We Were Promised Jetpacks not too long ago. What are your favorite tour memories from that run?
I wish that we had set out on tour with them but that’s not exactly what happened. Our friend Rob Matera had booked them in our hometown and asked us to open for them. We had dinner with them and they were all great dudes. Shane has spent a lot of time in Scotland so he was talking to them all night. They were a very tight band and their vocals were really impressive live.
The band recorded with Grammy-award winning sound engineer Mike Tarsia, who worked with great acts such as David Bowie. How was it working with such a professional entity for the first release?
Shane and Mike have been working together for years and Mike is a mentor to Shane. Shane actually engineered and mixed this album and Mike mastered it. That being said, Shane would have never been able to make the record if he hadn’t spent a bunch of years learning from Mike. To know Mike is to love him and he is one of the most talented and most insane people you’ll ever meet. He grew up in a studio and is a mutant when it comes to mixing and being able to identify frequencies. He is a person who truly lives for music and is happy to share everything he knows with anyone. He has the biggest heart and works hard and parties even harder.
What would you say is the most memorable aspect of the album?
The most memorable aspect is that it took us only about a month to write it. We would rehearse and just crank out song after song. It was a great feeling because it was the first time that we had written as a band not just Shane and me. This time it was Steve, Napz, Shane and me. It was great.
What songs should your fans be looking forward to the most when listening to the release for the first time?
We all have our favorites but the catchiest two would be “Five More Steps” and ”Still Chasing”. The favorite song for the band would probably be ”Falling”. I say that because when it was initially recorded we weren’t even sure if it was going to make the record. Once we started to mix it we transformed the song into something else entirely and it set the tone for the rest of the record.
