Up-and-coming band HOMEMADE CRAZY released their debut album Synergy two weeks ago and I had the chance to snag an interview with them! Described as a blend of “indie, punk, pop, and blues elements – with a twist of synthesis”. Check out their interview and stream the album below via Soundcloud!
SBN: Hi there! For those unfamiliar, can you introduce yourselves?
Breezy: I’m Breezy Ortega I play keytar/synth and also do vocals.
Max: Max Kugler, Drummer.
Aaron: My name is Aaron Paiz and play Bass.
Koby: My name is Koby I sing and strum guitar.
Max: We formed as a group of friends playing tunes together, but we have all been friends a long while. The name homemade crazy comes from a local story that we thought was so unique that we could not pass it up.
Koby: It just fell together really.
SBN: You recently released your debut album “Synergy” – how would you describe the album?
Koby: The album is wild !! It goes all over the map we all put a lot of passion, and lively hood into it ..it’s real for the most part.. You can relate to “synergy” the sounds are easy to find common grounds.
Max: The album is essentially the first full line up of homemade crazy songs, which is really cool to me. we wrote those songs and we had this kind of weird spot where we got some writers block pretty much knew it was make the record or stop writing. once we got it all figured out we started churning out new songs like crazy….Synergy is the origin point keep listening to hear more!
Koby: Honestly we did it because we are lucky enough to have a truly gifted visual affect artist in the band! Breezy our head lady is Good! So we had to have her do it, we demanded it lol I suggest any other bands reading this to look her up for images! It also helped the cost but we absolutely plan on having our wild front woman do all our art!!
Breezy: I really wanted to do it myself, I have the necessary training and I liked the idea of it being “Homemade”. For a graphic designer a project like that is a great opportunity.
Aaron: We love the way it turned out.
Max: We are pretty energetic… I don’t know when I start to play people tell me I make ridiculous faces so I guess there is that too… Just come check us out we will make sure you have a good time.
Breezy: A lot of fun happening on stage.
Koby: Bring a towel it’s going to get sweaty.
SBN: You’re stuck in a van together driving to your next show hours away. Necessities of music gear, water and food aside, five items you can’t live without are…
Breezy: My Spotify playlist and a small blanket, that’s about it for me.
Koby: If you ask me I need, in order:
1. Whiskey
2. One can of coke
3. A shot glass
4. Sunglasses
5. My phone
Aaron: I just need the necessities. As long as I know that wer’e getting down the road safe and on time. That’s all I need.
Max: First off our van is the height of luxury and we set up an Xbox in it when we are on the road… The Shawshank Redemption is a band favorite so a copy of the movie is one thing, I gotta have my iPad, sunglasses, A LOT ofBbic lighters, extra shoes and a towel.
SBN: You’re still a very young band – but if you could talk to yourself as the band was originally forming, what advice would you give?
Koby: Don’t wait because it’s probably already to late.
SBN: What are your upcoming plans – music video, tour, etc?
Breezy: We have a 4 day tour set up in October and a much longer one were working on for next summer. Were also in the process of writing our next album.
Koby: Yes we are in the process now of putting together a video, also stay tuned for 2015; we are coming for you.
