EXCLUSIVE LIVE SHOW REVIEW AND PHOTOS: THE VENETIA FAIR

Just when I thought bands don’t rage and terrorize stages any more, I come across the Venetia Fair.

The Venetia Fair played at Bar Matchless for Northside Music Festival on June 12th.

The band was too big to for stage and probably even the room. Their keyboardist was on the floor because he couldn’t fit on the stage with the rest of the band.

I almost think that the awkward set up of the band in the small room was perfect because this band is some what of a circus taking the audience by storm the second they started playing.

The Venetia Fair is a band of well dressed, well rehearsed professionals of chaos and their music. While they were kicking and screaming they didn’t miss a beat or a note They did this all while remembering to smile from time to time letting the audience know its time to freaking party.

They opened the set with their set with the only song I was familiar with; which is their single “I’m Still Amazed”. A punchy upbeat song to get the party going with some dark lyrical undertones. It’s a good introduction for what you in for the rest of the show.

Each member had their own battle station as the set went on. Even in their slow songs made you want to get up and dance because every member on stage (and off as per the keyboardist) looked like they were having the time of their lives fighting imaginary monsters with their instruments.

The singer of the band, Benny Santoro, had his mic wrapped in red electrical tape, which he swung around his neck, the air and the audience. He also acted out little fits on stage while singing and literally pulled his hair out for everyone to see.

I felt their 30 minute set was short but sweet. All the songs were well performed and played. They turned a dingy venue bar into a rock and roll dance party where everyone was invited.

If this band comes thru your town I highly recommend seeing them. Their music is fun, alive and dark however they only take the darkness out on themselves in the best way possible. These musical cats make it seem like it’s ok to be angry, might as well throw a party for it instead of staying angry. Party on dudes.
