Exclusive Review : Too Cool Kid’s EP ‘The Algernon’

Possessing a striking sense of maturity, Too Cool Kid is nothing but “too cool” in every sense of the word. Right from the start, the UK group launches into an easy groove in a very pronounced, English rock style.

Straight out, “Under Your Breath” draws the listener in with sharp guitar tones that are a definite callback to other British Indie groups of the mid 2000’s, such as Dirty Pretty Things and The Rakes.  The hook, for me, lies in the melody and depth of the vocals.  This is probably what separates the Too Cool Kids from the rest of then lunchroom crowd and will help them to stand a head above other freshman EPs.

The tracks “Algernon” and “Target No. 9” also demonstrate the range of the groups’ musical abilities–incorporating influences from The Foo Fighters to the chillest of indie influences.  Too Cool Kid is definitely worth a listen. I predict a successful future within the UK indie scene and if they ever find themselves out of work they would certainly be welcome stateside.  Check out The Algernon EP after the jump and take them up on the offer of a free download.
