Gallery Review: Taking Back Sunday @ House Of Blues, Orlando

With more than two decades as a band and eight studio length albums, Taking Back Sunday have established themselves as a staple in the pop-punk world without fully digging their heels into the genre. Rather, they have chosen to adapt and evolve throughout their career, providing a different vibe with each new record.

The discography makes for an incredibly eclectic live show, encompassing epic punk emo classics, modern rock anthems, hints of classic rock, as well as a sampling of calmer acoustic driven songs. In celebration of their latest album entitled 152, the band treated Orlando to a night of new material sprinkled with stand-out tracks from their prior efforts. The sold out crowd consisted of fans of all ages, proving Taking Back Sunday’s ability to appeal to all audiences.

152 is the product of years of writing and recording and marks an exciting return for impatient fans. When asked about their writing process, drummer Mark O’Connell shared that the ultimate goal is to “make people feel emotion.” Given the packed house and the energy of the crowd, I’d say they have certainly succeeded in doing so with their Central Florida audience.
