An “illustrated audio escapade,” Jonathan Miller’s (Hand Sand Hands) upcoming EP The Shipping Forecast, is a brilliant look into the songwriters recent experience in the deserts of Utah. After stumbling across Petroglyph from the Fremont people–a pre-Columbian archeological culture–during his trip through the Capitol Reef National Park, Miller became undoubtedly enthralled with the landscape.
I was nearly in tears during the few hours it took to get to Moab,” explains Jonathan, “I couldn’t have spoken a word during that leg of the trip if I wanted to.
A combination of music from French and Estonian composers, solitude in the park, age-old artwork and a brilliant sunset–this gave birth to The Shipping Forecast. The three track EP is entirely instrumental and features guest violinist and clarinetist, John Fernandes (Olivia Tremor Control). The EP is available this July, but you can go ahead and download the first single, “Moab at Sunset no. 3” here. Oh, and you might want to use this download code: HSHSNG01.
Enjoy the single, and get ready to experience the Utah desert from the comfort of your home, thanks to the wonderful Jonathan Miller.
