Pittsburgh, PA | April 29, 2013 – The Steel City-based indie rockers known as Instead of Sleeping have partnered with AltSounds.com for the exclusive premiere of their new single “Volatile”. The song is off the bands new full-length record, Young Lungs, set to drop on May 22, 2014. The band tapped the producing and mixing skills of Marc McClusky (Weezer, Bad Religion, Ludo, William Beckett) for the new project. When asked about the inspiration behind the new song, singer Shaun Sweeney explained,
“While writing the lyrics for this song, I was trying to write about someone I wanted to be totally rid of. Somebody I truly wished that I never met. But as I kept writing, I found myself contradicting myself. By writing about this person, I found myself feeding my craving that I had for them: the calm as well as the chaos. People like that are the most dangerous, because no matter what line they cross they will always still mean something to you, and that’s what makes it both feel so beautiful as well as painful. “Volatile” was the first song we wrote and recorded with Marc McClusky. It was us dipping our toe into a new Instead of Sleeping. We were all anxious, stressed, and nervous about where this new direction would take us, but felt an amazing wave of relief after we listened back to Volatile complete. We were thrilled that we could write a song with the accessibility and polish that Marc gave us, while still maintaining our fun, hard-hitting style we love to play.”
