Sleepspirit is an alternative rock band from Manchester, New Hampshire. Reminiscent of acts like PVRIS and Spies Like Us, the members of Sleepspirit combine their musical influences and styles to create a unique offering on Silhouettes & Whispers, a five track EP released via Innerstrength Records. Guitarist Tim Ford took some time to discuss the release with us and share what they hope to accomplish as a band.
SwitchBitch Noise: Can you tell us a little bit about the cover artwork for Silhouettes & Whispers? How did it come together, and how does it fit with the music on the EP?
Tim: Silhouettes & Whispers is culmination of each of our past experiences as musicians, so the title “Silhouettes & Whispers” reflects that. A lot of people associate spirits, ghosts, apparitions, etc. with past lives and experiences, so it’s sort of a play on words. We wanted our artwork to reflect that, along with an ambient and space-like experience – so we think the artwork perfectly reflects the title. Our friend Aron Blye did a great job.
Which of the five songs on the EP was the most challenging to write or record?
“Final Distraction” really came together while we were in the studio. We spent a lot of time working on different guitar tones to really reflect the vibe we felt the song gives off. The song has driving rock tones with a nice mix of ambience, so it was important to us to spend a lot of time to make sure those tones did the song justice. Bobby’s wide range of vocals really shine on the track as well.
If you had pick one line or lyric from the EP to sum up the message Sleepspirit is trying to send with its music, what would it be and why?
In “Take Me Down,” the line “I was feeling undone by the journey I’ve begun, so I get up and start it again” is an important one for us. It encapsulates being on a path, not feeling fulfilled, and starting anew. We believe that’s a really important part of life – if you’re unhappy, it’s okay to start over for the sake of your own happiness.
If Sleepspirit had a band bucketlist, what would we find on it?
To have our music connect with people from all across the world. If we make just one person’s day better because of music we wrote, then that is what it’s all about for us. If we are able to turn this passion into a career, then we’d be eternally grateful.
Aside from life experiences and other musicians, what inspires you to create music? (Literature, fictional characters, film, etc.)
The feeling we get from creating a song from nothing, and hearing it come to fruition. There is no other feeling like it. The ability to express ourselves through a medium that not many people get the opportunity to do is an incredible experience/feeling in and of itself as well.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers about the band?
We are so blessed to be at the stage we are so early in our careers, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds. Keep an eye on our social media for tour dates, new merch, and other cool news.
