With 20 Buck Spin preparing to issue the bruising debut LP from KHEMMIS, entitled Absolution, the latest single from the album has been premiered through a No Clean Singing exclusive of the hymn “Ash, Cinder, Smoke.”
Absolution not only sees the Denver-based quartet KHEMMIS joining the same label responsible for records from Samothrace, Graves At Sea, Pallbearer, Yob, Mournful Congregation, Lycus, Atlantean Kodex and other heavyweights of the doom metal subgenre, the band seamlessly merges comparable clean and caustic elements from said acts into a cathartic and unforgettable display of top-tier doom metal. Undoubtedly a must-hear album for all fans of the style, Absolution was produced by Dave Otero at Flatline Audio (Cobalt, Nightbringer, Cephalic Carnage), and bears Fantastic Frazetta-inspired cover art by Sam Turner (Speedwolf, Black Breath, Trve Brewing).
No Clean Singing this week delves head-on into KHEMMIS‘ world, issuing an in-depth interview with the band on their intoxicating works, which has been published alongside an exclusive premiere of Absolution‘s second moving track, “Ash, Cinder, Smoke,” which includes a guest vocal appearance by Ethan McCarthy of Primitive Man in its later moments. Issues the webzine’s write-up of the track itself, “KHEMMIS shake the earth with pavement-cracking riffs and cannon-blast drum blows. They stomp like brontosaurs and rumble like boulders, while sending out tendrils of lead guitar melody that coil around your neck like hungry pythons. And the vocals – the principal vocals soar up high, clean and pure, while the instrumental music is busy down below in the excavation zone, pulverizing foundations of large buildings and reducing them to rubble. And in tandem with those excellent clean vocals, the band mix in abraded, growling tirades that leave scars in their wake…”
