“[Landlady’s] sound invokes The Band if they hadDirty Projectors‘ skewed sense of song structure.” – Pitchfork“There are so many moving parts on “The Globe,”but they come together to make one big, beautiful whole.” – Stereogum“Landlady strikes a chord as the everyman’s gospel; secularly spirit-rousing but no less powerful, articulate in vision but universal in its delivery.” – I Guess I’m Floating
Today, Landlady are sharing a new track, “Dying Day,” from their upcoming full-length Upright Behavior, out July 15 via Hometapes. They’re also announcing a national tour with dates spread out between June and September. The latter dates include a string of shows with Man Man, who share a bandmate in Landlady bandleader Adam Schatz. “Dying Day” is available for streaming HERE, and Upright Behavior is also available for preorder HERE.
“Dying Day” is one of those rare tracks that seems both hopeful and anxious at the same time, a dizzying blend of the melodic whimsy and introspective lyricism that have already come to define Landlady. “What am I supposed to do about it?” Schatz’s voice leads the entire band in an exquisitely-performed two-and-a-half-minute explanation of the inevitability of existence. The universal answer to the universal question? We should probably just dance.
Landlady appeared on earth as the nucleus of the songwriting, arranging, and lyrical prowess of Adam Schatz – and as the collaborative campground for his closest friends. The release of 2011’s Keeping To Yourself began the ascent of the Brooklyn five-piece, who, in addition to Schatz, is made real by Ian Chang, Mikey Freedom Hart, Ian Davis and Booker Stardrum.
