New York City, July 6, 2016 || Mere days after the release of their newest creation, If I’m The Devil, punk-rock legends Letlive. set out on a coast-to-coast tour. The New York City date brought them to Gramercy Theatre, where people from around the world gathered together to dance until their bodies ached, scream every word, come together- if only for a short period- and stand up for their beliefs in quintessential letlive. fashion.
The band thrilled fans with classics like “Enemies” [Enemigos], “Muther”, “The Dope Beat”, “Banshee”, “That Fear Fever”, “Renegade ’86”, and more. A tribute to how quickly If I’m The Devil has gained traction amongst fans, the band was able to start and end their performance with two songs from the album: “I’ve Learned to Love Myself” and “Good Mourning, America”.
While this performance was a spectacular showing of this band’s raw talent and passion for the music they have created together, it seems that this is not the letlive. that original soul-punx know from the earlier days. This time around there were no stage dives, no flinging of trash cans, guitars, amps, no backflips, and overall less antics than fans of the band’s insane live show have come to know.
Perhaps this more subdued performance can be attributed to a bad day, or perhaps the unbridled chaos of Fake History days are starting to give way to a more reverent and introspective show. Front man Jason Aalon Butler has long been known for expressing his opinions on political and social events, and with everything happening in the world today, it would make sense that Butler took a more restrained route to highlight the serious tragedies that have plagued the nation more recently.
Despite not being what most fans would expect from a letlive. show, this calculated presentation allowed for an incredibly clean, musically intricate, and moving performance. If you haven’t gotten to see letlive. yet, this tour is absolutely the time to do it. Check their website for more information on the tour, as well as tickets to each event.
