Live Gallery + Show Review: Baroness, Deafheaven, Zeal and Ardor

Review and images by Devon Keller

On April 9th, Zeal and Ardor, Deafheaven and Baroness swept away Cleveland fans with chords and choruses to die for. Gospel-inspired metal, post-metal and heavy metal echoed alongside cheering fans through The Agora Theatre, and it certainly made for a fabulous show.

Starting off the night was Zeal and Ardor, an avant-garde metal band from New York City. Their stage presence was stoic, and moody. Their music has a way of filling the space around you, and it captivated and engulfed the entire crowd.

The second act, Deafheaven, took the mood a whole different direction. Bringing a post/black metal mood to the stage, the band had it’s audience moving and hyped. They were extremely engaging through their rapid movements, and did a fantastic job at maximizing their stage space with their energy.

Finishing off the evening was the one and only: Baroness. The air filled with the tingling excitement from fans as they anticipated the band’s entrance. Once Baroness made their walked into view, cheers and screams erupted from the crowd, putting a smile on the band’s faces. The entire performance, Baroness seemed very genuinely happy to be there. They goofed around, had fun and filled the hall with fantastic live music and performance; attendees sure got their money’s worth.
