The Artist Returns With A New Indie-Rock Sound
Luke Boor returns to the music scene after reflecting on our ever-changing world with the release of his new single, “Change“.
Nashville-based singer/songwriter Luke Boor comes out with a new single, “Change”, on June 16th, after taking a long hiatus from music.
“Change” is Luke Boor’s first solo release since 2015, and his new release is quite different from his older music. His 2014 EP, Skeletons, is a lot more grounded in Americana and Folk-Rock, perhaps stemming from his Texas roots. The title of the track, “Change”, is not only the catchy hook in the chorus but is a word exemplifying the huge shift in genre, songwriting, and perhaps the changes in his life.
“Change”, however, defies what one might expect from a singer/songwriter in Nashville. The song has a groovy upbeat tempo and a catchy bassline which drives the track and adds an awesome rhythmic hook throughout the track. The vibe of “Change” feels like a song that would be featured on the same playlist as artists like Tame Impala, The Strokes, and Cage The Elephant. The verse and chorus feature memorable melodies that get stuck in your head, even from one listen. By the end of the song you’ll want to hum along with the melodic hook in the chorus, it’s really that catchy!
Boor’s lyrics hint at a major shift in the artist’s life, the first line, “I know it’s hard to believe that I’m still trying”, perhaps a reference to his long hiatus from music. Luke Boor explains one of the major reasons for his break with songwriting was his time living in New York City, and how he was swept up into work and the literary scene. His experience in writing a novel, as well as his struggles with mental health during the pandemic, add a lot of depth to the song. The lyrics become haunting, in a way, which is quite the contrast to an upbeat song. I am very excited to hear the rest of the songs that Boor worked on while recording in Nashville, especially to learn more about his story, and the other changes in his life.
I highly recommend checking out Luke Boor’s newest single “Change”, as well as any other future releases or projects he will be releasing, speaking of which, I can’t wait to read his novel!
