The anime and game composer behind Fairy Tail and League of Legends unveils a brief but breathtaking track exploring the fear of new beginnings
Iconic J-Pop artist SHIHORI has composed music for numerous anime like Fairy Tail and iconic games like League of Legends. Now, she has released an all-new single, titled “Invisible Stairway”. This single tackles themes of hesitation and trepidation over beginning something new. We got the chance to review this new song, and here’s what we think about it!
“Invisible Stairway” begins with a lulled tone but crescendoes almost immediately. It’s a really neat start to the song.
However, something that listeners may not immediately catch on to is that the key changes pretty often with this track. This never seems to subside, leading to a feeling of tone escalation with every key change. I’d be lying if I were to say I wasn’t obsessed with that concept.
Furthermore, the song, which is a brief 2 minutes, 28 seconds, feels much shorter than it should. But, perhaps that has to do with my enjoyment of the composition as a whole. There’s something to be said about the level of sophistication that leads me to like a song like “Invisible Stairway”. But also, that sadly usually correlates with the issue of how ephemeral music is and how it ends so abruptly at times, especially when it’s simply good music.
All that to say, with all the highs this song has going for it, the low is that I wish it were much longer. That being said, I don’t think it would have been entirely plausible ot ask this of SHIHORI, or any artist, as musical vocal range can only go so far. To make this composition more than, say, one minute longer, would have been asking too much of most musicians.
Again, this composition is fantastic; it’s a feast for the ears. It’s a brief feast, but maybe that allows people to enjoy listening to it even more.
