A pop-rock song about unrequited love, this 80s-style single by Amanda Brecker is amazingly catchy and remarkably insightful.
Singer-songwriter Amanda Brecker has been around the globe. Her work is especially well-known in Japan. She’s definitely seen a lot. So it makes sense that Brecker has also seen her share of heartbreak in her world as well. “Wrong Again”, her new single (out Friday, September 29th), encapsulates the feeling of being misled and one’s love being unrequited. Here’s what we think!
“Wrong Again” Is A Fantastic 80s-Style Track
“Wrong Again” begins as a soft-rock ballad, similar to the kind of music you might often hear in a compilation album commercial. This isn’t bad; it merely means that Brecker did her homework. The verses then soon escalate into something that feels distinctly in Brecker’s style. There’s a pop-rockiness about the chorus, and that’s also utterly fantastic. The chorus, combined with the bridge of the song, will most likely be stuck in our heads long after it ends. Truly, this is a positive experience.
The content contained within the lyrics of the single also lends itself to the musicality of this track. Many 80’s songs within the pop-rock genre do have this angst and morosity about them, and unrequited love is no stranger to a lyric in that decade. In that way, Amanda Brecker and collaborator Daniel Jakubovic have really researched the genre and simulated it in a way that tickles our sense of nostalgia.
Simply put, we love this track. After “Man Of My Dreams”, we thought Brecker’s music was top-notch. “Wrong Again” proves our thoughts absolutely right. This is especially true in part because of the power of choosing the perfect genre for Brecker’s song. Furthermore, we can appreciate the power behind the single’s lyrical themes. All in all, “Wrong Again” is one of those tracks that will pull you in for one listen after another. Her next album Dreams will be out on Friday, November 3rd.
