LA-turned-Detroit indie pop band TWO CHEERS have released a new single called “The Explode Boys,” to be featured on their sophomore album Splendor, due out on July 21st. The track is the third released from the upcoming album, and Purevolume.com highlighted its “hints of The 1975, The Cure, and The Strokes.”

Two Cheers saw its inception in early 2014, when vocalist & founder Bryan Akcasu started writing and recording the band’s debut self-titled album in LA. With the eventual help of drummer John O’Reilly Jr. and mixing engineer Justin Newton, the album was released somewhat under-the-radar in the Summer of 2014. With the additions of guitarist & songwriter Mitchell Dill, bassist Al Aguilar, and drummer Bryan Panzeri, the band started playing shows around town, which led to attention from influential LA blogs like Free Bike Valet and Beating Lights. Bryan and Mitchell wasted no time in recording Two Cheers’ sophomore full length Splendor, which was produced entirely in Bryan’s apartment during the Autumn and Winter of 2014. “We recorded the whole thing in my apartment in the fall of 2014, right after our first album came out, because the music we were coming up with was so invigorating for us,” recalls Bryan Akcasu. “We made the decision early on to drop what we were doing in life and produce, mix, and master the whole record. We devoted our lives to it, and I invested in all the recording equipment we needed. We wanted to do it all ourselves to make sure our vision for the album carried through the whole process.” As of June 10th 2015, just before the release of the new album, Bryan made the unusual choice to relocate the band to Michigan, where he prefers the slower pace, cooler climate, and less metropolitan lifestyle. That’s not all there is to it though, as Bryan suggests: “There is a renaissance just starting to take place in Detroit and I want to be a part of that kind of thing. There is so much more room for a diverse, eclectic music scene here than anywhere in the country, not to mention the great bands that are here already. Before you know it, people are going to realize Detroit has made a comeback and has a music scene that rivals Austin and Portland.”
Two Cheers will continue to release new material from the upcoming album Splendor, and fans can expect a handful of official music videos in the coming months. For more information on Two Cheers, be sure to follow the band on Facebook and Twitter.
