Boston, MA – August 14, 2015 – Bostonian singer/songwriter, Josh Friedman, has been bringing a soulful edge to synth-pop music. The artist, who performs under the moniker ThatOneEyedKid, evokes an undeniable sincerity in his songs. Josh’s music resonates positivity, an attitude he cultivated as a teenager from battling and surviving cancer. This Boston University graduate began cultivating quite a following performing on campus and releasing beautiful piano covers of popular tunes on YouTube. Recently ThatOneEyedKid began preparing to release his sophomore EP, Always, which is due out September 18, 2015.
When asked about the inspiration behind the song Josh shared, “I think when we fall in love we kind of go a little insane… When it’s good, it’s just manic happiness 24/7, or when it’s bad it’s like existential-meltdown bad. I think most love songs tend to fall in one camp or the other, and I always wanted to write a song that tried to capture both of those feelings at once, and that’s where ‘Always’ was born.”

About ThatOneEyedKid:
Josh Friedman is earnest. His songs have always drawn from deeply personal and emotional experiences, and he wants listeners to connect with those feelings. From his first piano-compositions as a teenager to his role in pop-punk band The Fates, Josh strives to create music that straddles the line between accessible and intriguing. Relocating from St. Louis, MO to Boston, MA, Josh became immersed in diverse musical worlds including choral arranging, avant-garde rock ensembles, and 20th century classical composition.
Restless in between classes at Boston University, Josh began recording YouTube videos of his performances. His second video, a Coldplay / TI mash-up, quickly spread around campus and made him a finalist for BU’s Got Talent contest as “The Keyboard Pirate.” Under the handle “ThatOneEyedKid,” Josh has shared over 50 videos of performances and vlogs to over a million viewers of his channel. His most successful video, a piano-arrangement of Avicii’s “Levels,” has over 700K views to date.
Anxious to find an outlet for his original songs, Josh expanded “ThatOneEyedKid” into a live band with long-time friend and collaborator Ben Levin on guitar. Along with musicians and producers at Berklee College of Music, Josh wrote and co-produced his first batch of songs and released the EP “Illuminate” in 2013. Praised for its emotive storytelling and heavy grooves, the title track was voted #8 best rock song in the Indie International Songwriting Contest.
ThatOneEyedKid has gone on to perform in venues all around New England, with residencies at John Harvard’s Brewery House and Machine Nightclub. In February 2015, Josh wrote, produced, and recorded a brand new album for the RPM album-in-a-month challenge called “Millennial.” ThatOneEyedKid’s next EP, “Always,” is due out in Fall 2015.
