The Crystal Teardrop release the new single “Nine Times Nine” with a wink and a nod to the music and counterculture of 1966.
UK’s The Crystal Teardrop deliver a playful take on the psychedelic-rock genre with just the right amount of reverb and layered guitars to satisfy the senses. Anyone with an affinity for the Mamas and the Papas, The Byrds, Beatles, and early Pink Floyd as we do, here is your tonic. The band, originally from Stoke on Trent, has a distinct advantage in their image because their electric bassist, Caitlin Hare, is also a vintage clothes designer. They perfectly embody their sound and style.
The band’s debut single “Nine Times Nine” works as a composition with all parts playing an equal role. The lead vocals and guitar work by Alexandra Rose Mason are right on, sounding youthful and effortless, a refreshing break from the over-singing that’s become all too common in pop music today.
With the genre-appropriate production style, no single instrument takes the spotlight which is surprisingly refreshing. The guitar solo by Leon Jones played in reverse melts in your ears, and the iconic 60’s sounding drum fills played by Connor Wells sound like they are recorded in ’66. Have a listen and ask yourself, “Hmmm… what do those drum fills take inspiration from…Revolver? Sgt. Pepper?” We must admit that is part of the fun of listening to the track.
The lead vocals and guitar work of Alexandra Rose Mason with a youthful and effortless sound provide a refreshing break from the over-singing that’s become all too common in pop music today. The band’s use of heavy reverb, vocals, and layered guitars satisfies the senses, creating a dream world for the listener to get lost in.
The band is doing much more than creating an indie rock song, they are creating a dream world that the listener steps into. After making their debut at Le Beat Bespoke Festival 2023, The Crystal Teardrop will soon be bringing their distinctive sound to UK venues.
