The Rural Alberta Advantage have unveiled another song from their upcoming third album Mended With Gold. Stereogum premiered “Runners in the Night” off Mended With Gold, which will be released on September 30 on Saddle Creek. Stereogum says the track, “moves with a kind of rustic swagger and follows the singles “On The Rocks” and “Terrified.” Exclaim added “‘Runners in the Night’ is a jaunty folk rock tune that gets more urgent as it swells during the pounding, sky-reaching bridge. But even as the rocking arrangement grows, this one is really all about Nils Edenloff’s acoustic strums and impassioned vocals.” Fans can head to the Rural Alberta Advantage’s YouTube Channel for exclusive commentary by Nils Edenloff on writing “Runners In The Night.”
Mended With Gold was recorded at Toronto’s Candle Recording with the band’s long-time live engineer Matt Lederman (Hayden, !!!, Besnard Lakes) alongside co-producer Leon Taheny (Owen Pallett, Austra, F*cked Up). The album is available for pre-order now on CD & LP in Saddle Creek Online Store and digitally via Itunes. A limited Indie Exclusive version of the album will be released on clear vinyl with metallic gold sputter and will be available at local, independent record stores.
In 2006 singer-songwriter Nils Edenloff, percussionist Paul Banwatt, and multi-instrumentalist Amy Cole came together to release their debut self-titled EP as The Rural Alberta Advantage. The ensuing years have brought two full-length albums (2008’s Hometowns and 2011’s Departing), widespread critical praise (SPIN, The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, NPR, among others), two Juno Award nominations (Best New Group, Video of the Year), the Polaris Music Prize Long List, and a hard earned reputation as one of the most impressive live bands you’ll ever see. It was through all of this that The RAA’s latest album, Mended With Gold, took shape.
The Rural Alberta Advantage also just released a live performance video from the band’s show onJuly 8 at Massey Hall in Toronto. The video includes a performance of “Terrified” from Mended With Gold along with fan favorites “Luciana,” and “Tornado ’87.” The Rural Alberta Advantage will kick off their US tour in Detroit. The tour will make stops in major cities such as Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Philadelphia, New York and more. All upcoming shows are listed below.
