Melbourne, FL – August 18 – Mental health non-profit To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA) has announced its 11th annual suicide prevention campaign. Running through the end of September (Suicide Prevention Month), this year’s campaign revolves around the statement “You Are Not A Burden.”
On the campaign’s website, the organization wrote: “Suicide is a complex social and health crisis that impacts every community on the planet. In September, during Suicide Prevention Month, we’re working to disrupt the belief that struggling with mental health makes you a burden. This month we invite you to help us create honest and hopeful conversations, explore what it looks like to support people through their darkest moments, and invest in the tools and resources that make healing possible. Your truth, your fears, your pain, and your doubts do not make you a burden—they make you human. So we’re here to remind you: You are not a burden.”
People can participate by purchasing the Suicide Prevention Pack, joining the conversation online by tagging @TWLOHA and using #NotABurden, and by donating to the campaign. All donations will go towards TWLOHA’s goal of raising $250,000, which will make it possible for the organization to sponsor 3,600 counseling and group therapy sessions, as well as supporting 45,000 people in finding local mental health resources.
During National Suicide Prevention Week (September 4th-10th), TWLOHA will begin sharing action steps people can take to support themselves and others who might be experiencing thoughts of suicide. The organization is also encouraging people to join the global conversation on World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10th) using the items from their Suicide Prevention Pack.
“Because suicide is complex, we know it’s not something we can solve overnight,” says Lindsay Kolsch, Co-Executive Director of TWLOHA. “But we all have a part we can play to make it easier for people to ask for help, to connect those struggling to resources, and make it possible for more people to stay.”
