Even with their music career spanning nearly two decades, Trivium has shown no signs of slowing down. In fact, many would argue that the band’s latest release is their strongest to date. After experimenting with various vocal styles over the years (and facing some criticism for it), frontman Matt Heafy seems to have found the perfect balance on The Sin and The Sentence. The tour in support of their eighth album has been highly successful with many shows selling out. They recently did a few shows with Bullet For My Valentine, and we were able to catch the stop in New Jersey at The Wellmont Theater.
Title track ‘The Sin and The Sentence” kicked off the set, followed by even heavier tracks “Throes of Perdition” and “Betrayer,” sending the crowd into a furious circle pit. Things slowed down a bit for “Until the World Goes Cold,” but there was no lack of energy as a majority of the audience sang along and the crowd surfing continued. “Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr,” a fan favorite since Ascendancy came out back in 2005, was definitely a highlight of their performance. As usual, Heafy’s interaction with the crowd was on point, making sure everyone in attendance had an incredible time. I could go on and on trying to describe the energy in the room, but my words would certainly fall short. In other words, just go ahead and buy your tickets to experience it for yourself.
