BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN: Television Overdose or “TVOD” have been creating havoc at night all over Brooklyn with their outrageous stage shows, and announcing the arrival of “Alien”, the new single which comes to earth on October 5th. The shows are pure energy, pure chaos, and we think you will love them.  As a matter of fact, we highly encourage you to experience a show but warn that things can get pretty wild.

TVOD founder Tyler Wright has been in the midst of a fast-evolving neo-punk scene in Brooklyn since 2019 by assembling an all-star group of musicians and punk-rock performers called TVOD who have a stage show that includes antics we reminisce about from the 90s heyday of the NYC music scene: stage dives, crowd surfing, and pouring beer over their heads. With stressors such as social media, FOMO, and the rising cost of living swirling endlessly around and sometimes strangling Generation Z, the kids that grew up with social media, the music of TVOD seems to be a much-needed outlet. The TVOD audience is a group of 20-somethings that need to go wild and let out their energy. Songwriter Tyler Wright admits that he too has moments of envy and imposter syndrome that led up to the creation of the song “Alien”, where admitting that it came about when he felt that some little green alien was starting to take over his existence. Pretty deep stuff for an Indie band, and that’s why we like TVOD so much. It’s a voice of a generation. This anti-pop, anti-commercial music is born from the cultural climate and tone of the world surrounding and swallowing them.

Mike Abiuso who produced, mixed, and mastered “Alien” was blown away by the irreverent style of the band, who faithfully dragged themselves into the studio on a Sunday morning, all with varying degrees of hangovers from the show at the Mercury Lounge the night before. Mike noticed that the same kind of “don’t give a f/ck” style is not just in the performance on stage, but he could feel the same kind of “all or nothing” energy coming out of every musician in the recording studio, and even in Tyler’s performance when tracking vocals for “Alien”.

Tyler Wright adds,

“This was a song I came up with while sitting on the floor of my practice space feeling sorry for myself. I was having a lot of feelings of self-doubt and jealousy at the time and for some reason I could not stop painting this mental image that there was a little envious martian man slowly eating my brain and trying to take over my life. It’s amazing what some painful emotions and a couple catchy guitar riffs can become.” – TW

ABOUT THE BAND: Drenched in beer, sweat, and emotion TVOD’s unapologetically raw stage performances have become infamous around New York City since forming in 2019. The band, founded by Tyler Wright, started to take shape while he wrote the first songs off of the “Victory Garden” EP in his dimly lit DIY basement venue “The Palace”. After recording most of the band’s first material, Tyler enlisted an all-star cast of Bushwick’s punk rock royalty to fill out the live sound. Members include Mem Pahl (Jeffery Lewis), Lizzy Black (Fruit and Flowers), Jenna Mark (Tilden), Serge Zibrizer (Daddies) & Jason Wornoff (Vacant Company). Hailed as “loud and fun and good” by Oh My Rockness, the band is hell-bent on bathing in the blood of punk rock infamy.
