Darling Arithmetic, the third album from Villagers, is out tomorrow via Domino. The album premiered last week with NPR’s First Listen, with standout track ‘Hot Scary Summer’ described as ‘grandiosity manifested as a sweet slow burn’. The album has already received acclaim, with i-D noting it is “A far more stripped back and naked album to their two previous records, both of which were nominated for The Mercury Prize, O’Brien’s honest collection of songs feels like a coming of age album while allowing him, at times, to fall to pieces,” MusicOMH hailing “Lyrically it is rich pickings for those that savour the words so often masked by either sheer noise or mumbled vocals, as O’Brien proves how he has developed into a rather impressive poet,” and Interview Magazine proclaimed it “a naked and subtle acoustic record with the raw, straightforward lyrical universality of Christopher Owens and Devendra Banhart.”
Additionally, today Villagers is pleased to share the video for ‘Everything I Am Is Yours‘, another highlight from the album. Directed by Jamie Thraves (Radiohead, Sam Smith, Blur), the video echoes the song’s tender depth and features Conor O’Brien in a starring role.
