Lancaster PA // April 25th 2015 : My band, The Venetia Fair was scheduled to play Launch Music Conference. A concern that kept getting brought up during the day was the fact that our 9:45pm set at the convention center aligned closely with Alien Ant Farm‘s 10pm set a few blocks down at The Chameleon Club. Do people still listen to Alien Ant Farm? Do they know a single song of theirs that isn’t their cover of “Smooth Criminal”? Will they take our entire crowd (that doesn’t exist in Lancaster)? The answer is “whatever”, cause for one, there’s nothing you can do about it, and secondly, less than a half hour before our set, we come to find that Alien Ant Farm pulled out of the show over a merchandise contract issue of all things. Read the band’s full statement below; (here’s a nice little song to put on while reading : LINK)
Hey friends, unfortunately we had to pull out of tonight’s show in Lancaster, pa. The venue basically kicked out our friend and crew guy for selling merch and not giving the venue a percentage. Our contract states nothing of the sort. To yank our guy out of the room is extremely upsetting and we have zero tolerance for such actions. If you want to private message me, Fernando Mitchell (Dryden) I can tell you where we will be hanging tonight. At least you can come hang for a drink and you will receive free copies of our new record as well as shirts. Sorry to those who came out for this!!!
To make it up to disappointed fans, the band offered to meet fans and give them a copy of their new album for free in a different location. (interruption from SwitchBitch Noise – Umm, they have a new nu metal album? What is going on?) In response to talking about venues taking a percentage on merchandise. Not quite sure how this went over, but looking at some tweets (below), it’s not looking good.
If you were wondering, their crowd did not trickle in to our showcase, but based off the above tweets, it was for the better. I’m curious to hear other sides of the story to determine who is at fault. At the same time…”whatever”
