Live Review: things are looking up on the Don’t Look Down Tour

Spirits were high on day two of the highly anticipated Don’t Look Down Tour. Co-headlined by Bishop Briggs and MisterWives with humble support from up-and-coming singer Raffaella, the artists captivated the audience at The Tabernacle in Atlanta, GA, leaving not a single person unsatisfied with the show.

MisterWives opened up with “Out Of Your Mind,” the intro drum beat getting the crowd riled up after Raffaella’s chill pop set. Gone are the days of MisterWives’ rainbows and flowers, but with the magnetic stage presence of vocalist Mandy Lee and top tier chemistry (and coordinated dancing) with bandmates William Hehir (bass guitar), Marc Campbell (guitar), Mike Murphy (keyboard/saxophone), and Etienne Bowler (drums), the set was still unmistakably MisterWives.

Fans got to hear almost every song off their latest record, Nosebleeds, with a few past hits sprinkled in, including “whywhywhy,” “rock bottom,” and “SUPERBLOOM” off their 2020 album, and “Our Own House” from their debut album. Whether it was the haunting sound of “Ultraviolet” or Lee’s belting in “whywhywhy”, The Tabernacle was the perfect venue for a MisterWives set.

Powerful vocals only continued to build with Bishop Briggs’ closing set. A somewhat shocking key moment from the show was “Wild Horses,” the second song in the set, as Briggs herself was even surprised at how many fans were singing every word to this lesser known song of hers. Fans were treated to a breathtaking performance of a cover of Hozier’s “Take Me To Church,” one of the songs that won her the Season 9 title of “The Masked Singer” (and all too fitting for a venue that was originally built as a church). The night closed out with none other than “River,” her most popular song with nearly 4.9 million streams on Spotify.

It’s a good thing The Tabernacle has vaulted ceilings, otherwise there might not have been enough space for all the talent on stage that night. Massive musical talent aside, the visual aspect of the show is noteworthy as well. The Don’t Look Down Tour has just begun, so if you’ve thought about going, even for a second, it’s best you commit and buy tickets now–it won’t be money wasted. If not for the music, at the very least go for the incredible stage and lighting design. The Don’t Look Down Tour will not let you down by any means.
