Ba Da Bing Signs Ora Iso

Ba Da Bing will be releasing the debut record by Brooklyn’s Ora Iso October 14th. Ora Iso is a band that exists outside of any recognized scene or sound of the moment; influences such as Throbbing Gristle, Les Rallizes Dénudés and Dirty Three are not thrown about as often as they should be. Driving rock fringes straight into the cauldron of experimentation, the band cauterizes guitar and keyboard passages into something wholly new.

Ora Iso is comprised of off-axis harmonies and industrial percussion thrown back and forth between guitar, Wurlitzer, vocals and samples. Pieces begin in abstraction, encounter semblances of melody, then disseminate into fragments. Disassociated and lonely, the sounds project their missed connections with the world at large. It all comes together as glorious noise, and Bathcat, the band’s first album, captures the essence of their nature.

The group formed with a shared affinity for challenging pieces. Kathleen Malay, born in Indonesia and a recent transplant to New York via Australia, is a classically trained pianist who found her true calling once she met Jason Kudo, a guitarist best known for his work in Modra. Bathcat was recorded with the deft influence of Lary Seven, a fixture on the New York experimental scene since the 70’s, who has worked with such artists as Tony Conrad, Tom Verlaine, Foetus and Jarboe.

Ora Iso will be playing a record release show at The Silent Barn in Brooklyn on October 14th.  They will also be touring the country throughout November – details forthcoming.

All pre-orders of the Ora Iso record will receive a bonus cassette of unreleased recordings.
