About Backslashes And Bad Ideas:

Backslashes and Bad Ideas is not just your typical pop punk or emo outfit. They are neither generic nor processed, and proudly separate themselves from the constant cookie-cutter standard. With their own brand of raw, heavy hearted, and melodic music they started writing together inspired by a range of artists like scene veterans such as Taking BackSunday and Brand New. The band’s unique sound and blend of pop punk, emo, and post-hardcore has drawn comparisons to The Dangerous Summer, Transit, The Story So Far, and Into It. Over It.

In June 2012, the band began recording their debut EP Nothing Left To Give with producer Joe Della’quila (Anthony Green, Good Old War) at Exeter Studios in NJ. After a successful self-release on August 4th, 2012, Backslashes and Bad Ideas received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback and support, as well as favorable reviews from a variety of outlets. After several months of constant performing and promotion the band signed on to Imminence Records and went right back into the writing process to prepare for their next release. The sophomore effort There’s No Place Like Home was recorded over the summer of 2013 and features the singles “No Matter What Happens, Don’t Ask Who” as well as “Defend Josh’s Life Choices” featuring Fred Mascherino, formerly of Taking BackSunday.

The EP was released on November 12, 2013, garnering high praise after exclusive features with Alternative Press and AbsolutePunk.net. The band hit the road in January 2014, on an Eastern US tour to support the record with Lila Ignite and Night Owls. Shortly after the eager band yet again hit the studio to record their first vinyl release Sad Is The New Black. The first pressing debuted on 7” vinyl through MKT Records on September 9th, 2014. Vigorously promoting their release, the band again hit the road with label mates Get Stoked on a Central US tour further expanding their buzz as one of the most promising up-and-coming bands in the emo revival scene.

Since their inception, Backslashes and Bad Ideas has traversed the US, playing shows near and far having shared the stage with national touring bands such as Major League, I Call Fives, Seaway, Hail The Sun, Stolas, With The Punches, Half Hearted Hero, Born Without Bones, and Young Statues. Backslashes and Bad Ideas thrive to deliver an electric, intimate, and tightly crafted performance no matter what the bill, venue, or crowd.
