Stream New Song “High Wall,” Inspired By Hurricane Katrina, Now

New Orleans-native crash is releasing his debut album Hardly Criminal today, and you can purchase it at iTunesHardly Criminal is an eclectic amalgam of all the music that has come into crash’s path since his childhood in Louisiana. The diverse musical landscape influencedcrash heavily, yielding songs evoking 60’s soul, intimate folk and old time country. Produced and engineered by the multitalented Ed Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros lead guitarist, Mark Noseworthy, (and featuring friends from the Zeros, Dawes, Bright Eyes and more…). The album was premiered last week by American Songwriter.

One of the new songs from Hardly Criminal is “High Wall,” where crash recounts his time in New Orleans during and following the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina, and crash lost all of his possessions and was forced to move to Los Angeles. “High Wall” is a musical account ofcrash’s relocation, and is also a stirring testament from somebody who witnessed the effects firsthand in a place they call home.

About “High Wall,” crash said “We are all aware that many lives in New Orleans were dismantled by Katrina and left scattered about the country. I am but one of so many forced to make good from the absolute worst of situations.  That’s the biggest point of this tragedy, these new stories being written of hopeful, arching triumph.  When I finally got to writing the song ‘High Wall,’ it became a personal exploration on the question of, ‘What is most important? What do we value most as people?’   And how quickly what we love and treasure can all be taken away.  As for myself, Hardly Criminal is my new story, my reunited family, my rebuilt home, my recovered store. It is my triumphant moment after the storm and its fierce wreckage.”
