REVIEW: Cosmonaut – Radio Silence 7′

The indie-pop/rock outfit Cosmonaut is ready to blow you away with their new 7′, Radio Silence. Hailing from the heart of NYC, these kids are bringing back everything that I loved about the indie-rock scene from the early-to-mid 2000’s.  To boot, it’s all packed nicely in a very concise two song 7′.

Radio Silence, the title track, starts off with a fuzzy-feel good guitar riff while frontman Jack Manly channels Julian Casablancas at his best.  What seals the deal for me is the insane playing and melody.  It’s just noise that I can’t help but feel good about.

Subterranean Mercenary kicks in with those classic jangle-pop drum roots while Jack’s voice seems unphased by the pace and casts a lazy spell over more fuzz.  As the track progresses the plot thickens from a lengthy verse/pre-chorus structure to a cosmic bang of guitar and distortion.

Radio Silence is good.  It’s the kind of music that makes you want to get up and start the day.  This 7′ is definitely worthy of our attention and would make a nice addition to the collection of any respectable youth.  Pick it up, put it on, and do something useful like clean your room.
