EXHUMED: “New” Psalm Sullying The Airwaves Of Invisible Oranges; North American Onslaught With Napalm Death + Voivod In Progress

Today, the rabble-rousers of Invisible Oranges are sullying the airwaves with a refurbished rendition of “Necromaniac” by California’s favorite gore strategists, EXHUMED.

The latest number comes by way the band’s forthcoming Gore Metal: A Necrospective 1998 – 2015 full-length. A genre-changing audio manifestation of vile, grinding, over-the-top death-metal, Gore Metal was initially unleashed in 1998 and drips with charming repugnance, its raging riff subversions, foul-themed, slasher-film-inspired prose and putrid cover art still repulsively alluring nearly two decades since its release. Not content to let the album rot away, EXHUMED returned to the studio to re-record the underground classic. The resulting Gore Metal: A Necrospective 1998 – 2015, slated for release next month via Relapse Records, maintains the bone raw aggression of the original recordings while adding depth to the sonic devourment thanks in no small part to years of touring and a vastly improved-sounding recording quality.

Proclaims guitarist/vocalist Matt Harvey, “‘Necromaniac’ was a song that we felt best exemplified what we were going for on Gore Metal: Possessed and Repulsion ripoff riffs, grunts, screams, whammy bar obnoxiousness, and a traditional song structure. Hence why we chose it for the album’s leadoff track. We’ve played the song countless times live throughout the years and I don’t hate it yet, which is a good sign! This version is a lot more listenable and coherent, which may or not be a good thing depending on your taste. Anyway, if all that sounds like your kind of thing, give this revamped version a listen!”

Adds Invisible Oranges, “Though only Matt Harvey remains from the old crew, he’s brought back an old friend to guest on these re-recordings. Ross Sewage reprises his primal roar here on… and the result is an especially nostalgic and endearing feel that most re-recordings miss in their quest for perfection. The performance is tighter, the guitar solo is sharper and the vokills are actually somewhat intelligible this time around. Most importantly though, ‘Necromaniac’ is still a whole lot of fun…. It’s still gore fucking metal.”
