INTERVIEW: Blue Heaven discusses upcoming debut album

Blue Heaven is an indie-pop band based out of Maryland set to make their debut full-length release this summer. Bassist Connor Bowen was able to give us some insight into the forthcoming album, out June 15th via No Sleep Records. Feel free to peruse his responses below and enjoy some live shots of their recent set in New Jersey.

You’ve shared that your single “Growing” is about realizing that a relationship needs to come to an end. What other topics do you explore through the lyrics on your upcoming album, Volume One?

The album overall is about self realization and personal growth. It covers all aspects of a relationship, from beginning to end. Romanticizing both the highs and lows, and realizing the common denominator is yourself.

Is there a song on the album that you’re exceptionally proud of, either lyrically or musically? If so, what is it and why?

We’d love to pick one song but we view the album as one cohesive piece. Each song is just a small part of a larger story.

What was the biggest challenge you faced during the recording of the album? How did you overcome it?

Tracking the album was actually a smooth process. We tracked it in house with our vocalist/guitarist, Levi Miller, at his home studio Front and Center Recordings. The hardest part was finding someone who understood how we wanted to present the record in respect to mixing and mastering. Will Beasley grasped the vibe of the record and helped us get there.

All members of the band come from projects with a drastically different musical style, but indie-pop\rock certainly suits you well! How did you land on this direction for Blue Heaven?

Most of us burnt ourselves out touring in previous projects that were on the road together and wanted to experiment with another genre. Levi approached a couple of us with the idea of an indie pop band and it was the breath of fresh air we all wanted.

Do you have other creative outlets besides music? If so, what are they?

We all enjoy dabbling in other artistic outlets, but music is and will always be what means the most to us.
