KING GIANT: Entire Black Ocean Waves LP From Virginia Doom Metal Quintet Playing At Invisible Oranges; Album Out Next Week

Northern Virginia doom metal quintet, KING GIANT, now just a week from releasing their mighty third LP, Black Ocean Waves, today streams the entire album early through an exclusive stream courtesy of Invisible Oranges.

With their brooding, doom-drenched take on Southern rock/metal, KING GIANT has been rendering woeful, rousing tales of heartfelt loss and ruthless resolution since 2005, and has built a solid reputation as a diehard internal workforce through handling the recording and releasing of their own gravelly anthems since their inception. Their 2006 Burden EP was followed by the self-released 2009 LP, Southern Darkness, which won over stoner/doom rockers everywhere with its vibrant approach to the genre. But it was the Dismal Hollow LP released in 2012 that launched the band into a more accessible, but more sinister territory, reaping critical acclaim from internationally-based mags and webzines. Now in their tenth year, KING GIANT delivers their third full-length album, Black Ocean Waves. Forty-five minutes of bold, ominous, organic, and accessible material pours fourth on the new opus, surging with eight ebbing torrents of regret, shame, revenge, and reconciliation. Recorded in July 2014 at Magpie Cage Studios in Baltimore, Maryland, the album was engineered by Jawbox architect, J. Robbins (Clutch, The Sword, Wino) who later mixed the album and also supplies Hammond organ on “Blood Of The Lamb” and background vocals on “Trail Of Thorns.”

Invisible Oranges is now playing Black Ocean Waves in its entirety a week ahead of its release date. Alongside the exclusive album stream, a track-by-track breakdown of the entire album has also been issued, in addition to a write-up of the album which absolutely praises the band, including, “I have no idea why KING GIANT still hasn’t been signed, as they arguably offer more mainstream appeal than the last year’s worth of bands featured on Invisible Oranges put together. Their sound is big, straightforward and bluesy, recalling Corrosion of Conformity circa Deliverance – my favorite record of theirs – as well as Down and Kyuss. KING GIANT‘s approach is ‘meat and potatoes’ in the sense that Argentine filet Mignon and rosemary roasted fingerlings is ‘meat and potatoes’.”
