Landlady and Rubblebucket Team Up

Today, Landlady is releasing their new collaboration with Rubblebucket: a cover of Nina Simone’s “Be My Husband.” In their take, Landlady’s Adam Schatz and Rubblebucket’s Kalmia Trevor bring their respective singular voices to the sparse, powerful classic. The track premiered via Stereogum, who called the cover “excellent,” highlighting that “the male vocal [puts] a new spin on the haunting qualities of the original.” The release of “Be My Husband” marks the beginning of Landlady and Rubblebucket’s tour together, which begins tonight at The Rhythm Room in Phoenix, AZ; the current list of tour dates is below.

Speaking about the origins of the collaboration, Landlady said:
Landlady and Rubblebucket care about each other as bands and friends. We admire each other as performers, and we are psyched to combine our energy together on the road. In the spirit of caring, Kal & Adam from Rubblebucket & Landlady respectively wanted to join forces and make a special recording, a tribute to one of the greatest vocal spirits the world has ever known. They sing Nina Simone’s song as an act of togetherness and raw power that can be generated from music. It’s why they do what they do and why their bands dig each other so much. And the only objective is to radiate it outwards.
