Leisure Cruise Kicks Off Winter Tour With New Music Video

NYLON has premiered the new Leisure Cruise video for “The Getaway” from the band’s self-titled debut album out now on Last Gang. NYLON said, “The band’s sound is bold, characterized by heavy synth and electronic influences. Leah Siegel’s slightly husky croon adds a depth and layers of excitement, melancholy, and determination to their songs, mirroring Dave Hodge and Siegel’s hypothetical inspiration of a ‘final leisure cruise for the human race.'” Leisure Cruise’s Dave Hodge says “Our longtime collaborator and stage designer Jon Morris of The Windmill Factory (NIN, Lady Gaga) met video star Rameet Chawla at a party where Leah was performing. Initially intrigued by his style, when Rameet started dancing we couldn’t take our eyes off of him. Jon turned to Leah and said, “That guy should star in your music video“.  We asked Rameet that night and he was into it. It was only after we had Rameet on board that we realized he is a major tech entrepreneur – CEO/founder of Fueled.  Incidentally, he’s also one of Gotham Magazine’s 100 hottest bachelors of NYC 2013.
We shot the video in 12 hours. Michael McQuilken (former drummer/concert designer for Amanda Palmer), edited and did all post production.  We love this one.  And we love Rameet Chawla.”

Leisure Cruise’s winter kicks off tonight in Boston, MA at the Middle East Upstairs. The tour will make stops in major markets including Boston, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles and more. Special guests Stars will join Leisure Cruise on four of the west coast tour dates. All upcoming shows are listed below.

Leisure Cruise is Dave Hodge and Leah Siegel. Dave Hodge is a Canada-born musician (Broken Social Scene & Bran Van 3000) who has performed with Feist, Macy Gray, Brazilian Girls, and Basement Jaxx. He was sitting in a café when he saw an acquaintance walk by: singer and songwriter Leah Siegel (a fixture on the New York scene known for her solo project Firehorse and for singing with The Citizens Band), and asked her if she wanted to try some co-writes. They got to straight to work, and didn’t stop until their debut album was finished. So what does this mash of influences sound like? Something sounding like the future as imagined in the past-yet rooted in the now. Imagine the music of a John Hughes film if it had been written by Bowie, remixed by Johnny Jewel, and fronted by a female Prince, and you’ll start to get the idea. Rounding out the sound is an impressive roster of guests (Metric’s Jimmy Shaw, Blondie’s Tommy Kessler, Liam O’Neil from the Stills, Justin Peroff of Broken Social Scene, and Drake’s Adrian Eccleston). It’s at once dark and light, serious and fun, melancholic and euphoric. Ask Hodge and Siegel about their sound and process, and the answer sounds a lot like what happiness researchers call flow. “We’re not trying to emulate anything,” Hodge says. “We’re just making music that we’d want to listen to ourselves, and hopefully that means others will want to, too.”
