Live Review: Broadside, in and out with a bang!

As part of the opening acts for a short, three-show run on Set It Off’s current headliner, Orlando’s golden boys Oliver Baxxter, Pat Diaz, and Domenic Reid, AKA Broadside, came in and out with a bang!

Despite dealing with some technical issues that delayed their already tight 35-minute set, fans got to hear some of Broadside’s greatest hits, from the old-time classic “Coffee Talk” off their debut album, Old Bones, to favorites off their 2020 album Into The Raging Sea, like “Heavenly” and “Nights Alone,” to recent singles “One Last Time”, “Cruel”, and, of course, “Bang!” released earlier this month with Joshua Roberts of Magnolia Park.

An unsuspecting highlight of the night was “Laps Around A Picture Frame,” the only track played off their sophomore album, Paradise. Placing a slow song as the second to last song of an already short set may put the audience’s built up momentum and energy at risk; however, with a band like Broadside and a song like “Laps,” it was Baxxter’s raw vocals and supremely relatable lyrics that merited the loudest fan-contribution of their set. This song provided the space for the band to connect with the crowd, and fans in the crowd to connect with each other, bringing everyone together for the final song in their set, “Foolish Believer.”

Baxxter laments, “I just wanna be remembered” in this last song before leaving the stage, and it’s safe to say that Broadside will be remembered. Luckily, we won’t have to rely on our memories for too long. You can catch Broadside this winter supporting This Wild Life. Tickets and VIP go on sale Wednesday, August 30th!
