NIELSEN TO HOST PRE-GRAMMY® CELEBRATION CONNECTING MEDIA, BRANDS AND ENTERTAINMENT

New York, NY – January 27, 2015 – Nielsen, a leading global provider of information and insights into what consumers watch and buy, will host a pre-GRAMMY® Awards celebration on Saturday, February 7th, 2015, at Hyde Sunset Kitchen + Cocktails in Los Angeles. Building on the success of last year’s inaugural pre-GRAMMY® celebration, Nielsen will spotlight the distinct connection between media, brands and entertainment by bringing together guests from each of these industries.

“Brands, retailers, and media companies have never been more aligned with entertainment, which creates a huge opportunity for these industries,” said Howard Appelbaum, President of Entertainment, Nielsen. “We’re thrilled to help our clients navigate this opportunity, and look forward to toasting one of entertainment’s biggest nights with a remarkable array of guests and performers.”

UK band Bastille, nominated for Best New Artist at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, will provide the evening’s live entertainment. Formed in London in 2010, Bastille – named for lead singer Dan Smith’s birthday – began as a solo project by Smith, who later decided to form a band. Their first studio album, Bad Blood, was released in March 2013 and debuted at the top of the UK Albums Chart. Bastille was named British Breakthrough Act at the 2014 Brit Awards and has sold over 1.1 million albums (including digital and streaming equivalents) in the U.S. to-date.

The evening’s other entertainers are New Orleans’ Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band derives its name from Preservation Hall, the venerable music venue located in the heart of New Orleans’ French Quarter, founded in 1961 by Allan and Sandra Jaffe. The band travels worldwide fulfilling their philosophy to nurture and perpetuate the art form of New Orleans Jazz. Many of the band’s charter members performed with the pioneers who invented jazz in the early twentieth century including Buddy Bolden, Jelly Roll Morton and Louis Armstrong. Now moving into their seventh decade, PHJB broke new ground in 2013 with That’s It!, a record that will go down in history as their first album of entirely original material, which was produced by band leader Ben Jaffe and My Morning Jacket lead singer Jim James.

DJ Michelle Pesce will provide the night’s soundtrack. Pesce mixes the flavor of hip hop with rock, funk and pop while maintaining an old school vibe. From her weekly gig playing old-school hip hop at LA hotspot The Dime, to rocking A-list crowds at events for the Academy Awards, Golden Globes, multiple film festivals, and the Grammy Awards Official After-Party, she has become a staple in the Hollywood Event Scene.
