The Kooks Unleash Intense, NSFW Music Video For “Around Town”

New Album Listen Out September 2nd

Tour Dates On Sale Now

The Kooks have revealed their intense, NSFW music video for new single “Around Town.” The video features brutal bloody violence with an exciting bank heist narrative, like a Brian De Palma short film. The intensity of the video is matched perfectly by the gospel-infused bluesy-rock of “Around Town,” utilized as the soundtrack in a manner not far removed from Quentin Tarantino’s typical use of pop music to soundtrack the dark recesses of his films. The Kooks lead-singer Luke Pritchard makes a short cameo in the video – blink and you’ll miss it!

Inspired by directors Luke Besson and Quentin Tarantino, Luke Pritchard of the band explains the creative approach they took when making the video: “We decided rather than simply put a video to music we would do somethingmore cinematic. It was very much a collaboration with director Ryan Hope. We wanted to evoke the directors Besson and Tarantino while also exploring themes of Karma and the poem ‘If’.

The video stars Christopher Fairbank (The Fifth Element, Alien 3, Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides) and Pom Klementieff (Oldboy, Loup, Delicacy) and is directed by Ryan Hope (videos for 2 Chainz ft. Pharrell, London Grammer, Bombay Bicycle Club).

“Around Town” is the second single from eagerly anticipated new album Listen following the swaggering first single “Down.”

“Around Town” is another shift away from classic Kooks into unchartered territory and was the first track written for the forthcoming album.

Listen is out September 2nd via Astralwerks. Produced by young hip hop pioneer Inflo and Luke Pritchard, it showcases a new direction and sound for the multi platinum selling UK act.

“To me,” Luke says, “this album is about pure expression. Even the way we made the album felt fresh. Rather than us just being a band in a room, playing our guitars with the vocal over the top, which is what we’d always done before, we were really listening to what was going on around us, picking up ideas. The whole thing was much more natural.”

Listen is made up of 11 tracks (the Deluxe has 15), with highlights including the street-smart garage rock of “Bad Habit,” the powerful and haunting “See Me Now,” and the incandescent joy of “Are We Electric.”
