Roadkill Ghost Choir & Point Ybel Brewing Collaborate On ‘A Blow To The Head’ Belgian IPA

Florida-based band Roadkill Ghost Choir have teamed up with Florida’s Point Ybel Brewery to create and release A Blow To The Head, Belgian-style IPA with an ABV of 10%, inspired by the band’s song of the same name. Roadkill Ghost Choir will perform at Point Ybel’s tasting room “Hurricane Hole” on November 22, 2014 to celebrate the retail bottle release of the beer. ‘A Blow To The Head’ is available for purchase at the brewery.

The band created some commercials to celebrate the creation of their ‘A Blow To The Head’ ale; check them out here:

About the collaboration, the brewers said, “At Point Ybel we have a passion for beer of course, but also a passion for music. We started bringing local bands in to play our tasting room, Hurricane Hole, and it was a hit. So we decided “Why can’t we bring in some of our favorite bigger, national act bands? Roadkill Ghost Choir was our first choice. They are an amazing Florida band that we love. Everyone at the brewery has seen them live several times and we always listen to them on our bluetooth speakers when our friends get together on the beaches of Sanibel and Captiva Islands.

Before we knew it, they were booked to play our brewery. This of course called for a special beer for the event, dedicated to our love of the band.”

The brewery teamed with the band to discuss their favorite beers, looking for inspiration. Drawing from lead singer Andrew Sheperd’s love of big, bold Belgian ales and hoppy IPAs, the team decided to bring the two together and brew a beer worthy of the band’s palette. “We were impressed with the band’s selection and started brainstorming.  We knew it had to be high ABV, hoppy, yet well-balanced, so we combined some of the best traits of these brews and came up with a Belgian-style Imperial India Pale Ale.  The result was amazing.”

About the collaborative process and the resulting beer, Andrew Sheperd noted, “We were lucky enough to get approached by Point Ybel Brewing company to create our own beer. I’ve always been a fan of craft beers and specifically ones that are full of flavor and make your head buzz nicely. They created a beer that hits all the things I love about uncompromising craft breweries and it got me pleasantly drunk.”

The band have also announced additional tour dates for the last few months of 2014, including dates added in December on the west coast. For the band’s full itinerary, please see below.

The band are touring in support of their debut album, In Tongues, which was released in August. The album was streamed via Consequence of Sound and Relix hailed the album, saying “In Tongues sounds like the kid brother to MMJ’s classic It Still Moves: it’s a modern take on Americana flush with pedal steel guitar, spacey keys, churning percussion and Andrew Shepard’s vocals…his voice [is] an ethereal gust of wind blowing through these stormy songs.”

Emerging from the desolate heart of Central Florida, Roadkill Ghost Choir make unsettling, powerful American rock-Tom Petty by way of Radiohead and Cormac McCarthy. Set against Kiffy Myer’s ghostly pedal steel, singer and main songwriter Andrew Shepard triumphantly conjures an allegorical American landscape of drifters, specters and violent saints. Andrew’s brothers Maxx (drums) and Zach (bass) Shepard round out the rhythm section, and Stephen Garza handles lead guitar.

The band released their debut EP ‘Quiet Light’ in 2013 in the midst of a touring run that included opening for Band of Horses and festival slots at New York’s Governor’s Ball, Austin City Limits and Shaky Knees in Atlanta, GA. In January 2014, the band was invited to perform on the David Letterman Show, where they performed “Beggar’s Guild.”
